The tailoring unit is one of the major initiatives for women under SUDAR. It was setupexclusively for deserving women in the neighbourhood. Women from all age groups are encouragedto benefit through this initiative. During the training sessions, women are taught to develop their skills in cutting, stitchingpatterns and embroidery techniques.
It is a very effective initiativethat has made a difference in the lives of many under privileged women. Through this initiativethe economically vulnerablewomen are provided with livelihood support and sustained income generation. The recipients are now self-reliant, found self -employed at home and are able to support their families through the daily income
A six-month tailoring course (in two shifts - 10:00 am – 12:00 pm and 2:00 – 4:00 pm) commenced from 17.08.2020 and concluded on 23.02.21. Twenty-three women were trained in embroidery and were taughtto stitchpillow covers, petticoats, skirt and tops, salwar kameez, blouses etc.
On completion of the six-monthcourse, progress of the trainees was evaluated. 14 of them took up the Central Government tailoring examination, conducted in collaboration with Chitra Institute of Tailoring, Chennai.
On successful completion of the first batch and owing to increased demand, a second batch with a duration of three months that commenced on 5 February 2021 consisting of about 30 economically disadvantaged women, adolescent girls, and a few transgender trainees. Through this Tailoring course, we are able to teach valuable sewing skills to both women and transgender trainees and help them to enhance the quality of their lives.
